“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23, NIV)
Did you know the Bible contains, at least by one count, 3573 promises? That’s a lot! God is one who keeps promises. As we look at today’s verse, we get a glimpse as to why; Hebrews 10:23 says it’s because God is faithful. God never makes a promise he won’t or can’t keep. This is because the promises God makes are based on his character, and his ultimate promise to be faithful.
When you make a promise, often times it is conditional. Is there enough time? Is there enough money? Will something else that takes a higher priority come up? All of these things can change the condition of a promise…but not with God. God exists outside of our demands, so when he makes a promise, you can rest assured that he is able to keep it.
Perhaps the greatest promise God made is your salvation through the forgiveness of sin. God promises that when you believe in Jesus and confess your need for a savior, you will be saved. That isn’t conditional. Why? Because of the one who made the promise! Therefore, you can hold unswervingly to your hope of salvation, not because of your faithfulness, but because of God’s.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for keeping your promises. I know you do, because of your faithfulness. May my knowledge of your faithfulness increase my own faith, so I may hold unswervingly to my hope. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Have a blessed day,
