“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6, NIV)
I have some great news for you today: God is not finished with you yet! This is such great news, because it promises you that your past mistakes or current conditions do not define you. Tired? Weary? Broken down? God isn’t done. God wants to keep working within your story to make it a splendid symphony of God’s glory.
Max Lucado tells this powerful story about Beethoven in his book, When God Whispers Your Name. “In his later years Beethoven spent hours playing a broken harpsichord. The instrument was worthless. Keys were missing. Strings stretched. It was out of tune, harsh on the ears. Nonetheless the great pianist would play till tears came down his cheeks. You’d think he was hearing the sublime. He was. He was deaf. Beethoven was hearing the sound the instrument should make, not the one it did make.
“Maybe you feel like Beethoven’s harpsichord? Out of tune…inadequate…your service ill-timed or insignificant? Ever wonder what God does when the instrument is broken? How does the Master respond when the keys don’t work? Does he demand a replacement? Or does he patiently tune until he hears the song he longs to hear? If you’ve asked those questions (and who hasn’t), I want you to know that the Master Musician fixes what we can’t and hears music when we don’t! And He loves to hear the music that comes from your life.”
Let today be the first day of the rest of your life as God tunes your life according to his plan. Let that music play today and every day until the divine conductor lowers his baton and the applause of heaven welcomes you home with a “well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you and praise you for not being done with me. Help me start anew today tuned to the key of your love. I ask this in Christ Jesus’ name. Amen.
