“Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder.” (Romans 12:11-12, MSG)

This week we have explored what it means to belong to God and why it’s important. God’s Spirit helps you overcome the evil in the world; you can share this with others and build them up in their faith; your life of love and service blesses you in some astounding ways; you can bring joy to your leaders when you serve with them, doing your part; and helps point non-believers to the family of God. This can admittedly be tiring work. Working for God is tiring, which is one reason he commands rest and reflection, so we don’t lose our perspective. There are still times, though, when the going gets tough, so what is a believer to do? Keep going, of course!

There are times in all of our lives when we need perseverance. When things get bleak. When we are tired. In a season of pruning or growth where the fruit of the season isn’t yet visible. We all go through these times, and they are there to help us rely on God in faith, and stay connected to him and others through the Church. We see this spelled out in today’s passage where the Apostle Paul teaches us not to burn out, but stay fueled and aflame; stay alert to see where God is working, and join him by serving others; don’t quit; and pray hard.

Have you come upon difficult times? Don’t quit. Don’t! You belong to God, and your life matters to him and the people he’s given you to do life with. The outpouring of giving you do though service fills you with an eternal love and perspective. Just as you serve, knowing you belong to others, this brings joy to the leaders who are accountable for your growth and development. The way you live can help others see that they belong, too, so don’t give up. Persevere. And when you feel like quitting, pray, and pray hard.

In Christ you’ve been given a new beginning. Believe that your life matters to God and the people he’s given you do life with. You belong to God and his family, so live your life in love to help everyone know that God is real, God Loves them, and has a purpose for all of our lives.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for loving me, and helping me belong by the power of your love and Holy Spirit. May I persevere when I get tired and worn down, knowing you are working all things out according to your purpose. I pray in lJesus’ name. Amen.
