“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” (John 1:14, MSG)
This week we are looking at the idea of neighborliness. Yesterday, we pondered the question, “Who is my neighbor?”, along with Jesus’ answer that it is anyone to whom we can show kindness and mercy.
God gave us a model for living this way: Jesus! I love how today’s verse, which we see in The Message Version, shows us that God took on human form and moved into our neighborhood. This applies to all of us. With all of God’s cosmic power and presence, he loves you so much he wants to live like your neighbor. He wants to be involved in your comings and goings; in the celebrations and calamities of life; even giving you a cup of sugar to sweeten life when things get bitter. God did this for you and me in Jesus, and does it still.
God wants you to follow his example and be a neighbor for someone. Be kind. Show mercy. Get connected. Do life together. Be a neighbor.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thanks for being my neighbor. May I follow your example and be a neighbor to others, too. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
