“And be KIND and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” (Ephesians 4:32)
If you look up the word, kind or kindness, you will find more than enough quotes to read; in fact, I have a notebook full of them. We hear over and over, “be kind.” I am guilty of saying it often. What does it mean to be kind?
Generally, we think of it in terms of just being nice, which is easy to do to those we love/like or who are being kind to us. I think as followers of Christ, we are called to do much more than just be nice. To be truly kind, we are to be compassionate, gentle, forgiving and loving to ALL. This means to the person in line with all the coupons or the whining children, to those with different opinions/beliefs, to the server just learning their job, to someone we feel has wronged us, be kind.
Share a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, a helping hand, be an example of Jesus’ love and kindness. It’s really easy once you practice it.
“Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust and hostility to evaporate.” Albert Schweitzer
