an ordinary life?

by Pastor Mark Jordan
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” (Romans 12:1, MSG)
I love today’s passage. It speaks to living your life as an act of worship God. What a great thought! So often we think of worship as something we do for an hour a week or so, but we are called to live our entire life in a posture of active worship. Everything you say and do can be done in such a way as to glorify God, and that’s just the way God wants it. Sure some days are better than others, but when you can give your attention to God, he has a way of framing your perspective in such a way that you can see his fingerprints on everything.
Seeing God’s presence is important, but he also wants you ready to jump in and respond. When you give God your attention in the midst of your everyday life, he will show you all kinds of ways to serve him right in the middle of where you are. This way you can represent God in all you say and do, and live everyday as an act of worship for God.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to embrace what you’ve done for me so I may live my entire life as an act of worship for you, sharing your love with others. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
