“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19, ESV)
Happy New Year! Are you ready? Personally, I am ready to turn the page to 2018, and not just because it is an awesome Star Wars calendar, but because I’m just ready. 2017 presented some challenges, and I know I’m not alone in that. A New Year gives us a clean slate…an opportunity to intentionally do new things, informed by the things of old.
Our Bible verse for today says this beautifully: God is doing a new thing…it is springing forth…can you perceive it? God calls us to look back and reflect upon where we’ve been and how God was with us, but we aren’t to dwell there; no, God wants us to perceive where He is moving and move with Him.
I hope you have a blessed New Year’s Day and an awesome start to 2018. It’s hard to perceive where we’ll be a year from now, but one thing is certain: God is with us now and will be then, too. This is the message of Christmas, that God came to make His home with us. So whatever comes this new year, know you don’t face it alone. God is moving, and it’s springing forth with the turn of a page. Do you perceive it? Will you trust God to turn it with you?
Prayer: Dear God, happy new year! Thank you for being with me in 2017, and I look forward to walking with you through 2018. I know you are doing a new thing, and the continued power of your hope, peace, joy, and love is springing forth. Forgive me for the times I fear I’m alone, and help me to know you are with me with every step I take and every breath I make. In Jesus’ name, amen.
