“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.” (1 Peter 1:13, NIV)
This week we are looking at holiness as the different life God’s wants you to live. We have seen a couple times throughout our writings in the last week that we are confronted with a struggle to either conform or transform. God wants you to be transformed through holiness, or living for Him. As we explored yesterday, holiness might make us feel uncomfortable, because it seems unattainable. It is left to our own devices, but that isn’t God’s way; in fact, He gave you the way, the truth, and the life in Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
Our fist step toward holiness must be to Jesus. Ask for Jesus’ help in prayer, because He longs to give it to you. Later in John 14 we read, “I (Jesus) will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son (John 14:13, NIV). Jesus longs to help you become like Him so God may be glorified in your life. This doesn’t happen by conforming, though, but seeking transformation…holiness…to be different.
God wants you to be holy because He is holy (1 Peter 1:15). You cannot do this apart from Jesus. Ask for Jesus’ help, because He longs to give it to you.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I want to be holy as you are holy. I know I can’t achieve this on my own, so I turn to you for help. I know Jesus said He will help me to be different to glorify you, so I pray for help in His holy name. Amen.
