“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” (Colossians 1:1-2, NIV)
So how did it go yesterday making a step toward holiness by going to Jesus? He longs to help you, and you can only achieve holiness with His help, and with His Spirit living in you. As we continue looking at steps toward holiness this week, we must look at some of the obstacles we might face along the way.
The second step toward holiness is overcoming obstacles on the path. This does in part get back to our tendency to want to conform, but it also has to do with the struggles we face in the mind once on that path. Our Bible verse today tells us to set out hearts on the things of heaven and not on the earth. In other words, keep your heart and mind aligned on the steps toward holiness knowing you are leaving your old worn-out way of living behind you. There will be temptations to stop…to go backwards…but you want to be different, so don’t quit!
What obstacles to holiness do you face? Get real with them. Name them to remove their power over you. Seek out help. Seek out guidance. Keep praying for God’s guidance. This step can be challenging, but transformation happens when you begin to look behind you and see how far you’ve come. Don’t let the obstacles stop you, but give you a chance to turn back to Jesus and ask for His strength to help you be #JesusStrong on your path toward holiness.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I admit there are obstacles on my path toward holiness. Help me to keep my heart and mind set on you and your way as opposed to the obstacles I face. I ask this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
