good gifts

today’s daily water is by Doug Markle, founder of Beloved Lord Ministries. Doug is a longtime friend of Pastor Mark’s who writes a daily devotion.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! (Matthew 7:7-11)

As a parent, I love to give good things to my kids.  That doesn’t mean I will give them everything they want or ask for, because at times they want will not be good for them.  If I, in all my failures, want to bless my children, how much more must our perfect Heavenly Father want to bless us.  If our Heavenly Father WANTS to bless us, why is that many of us do not live in His blessings?  Could it be that the way we live does not line up with the faith we say we have?  Could it be that we don’t ask, because we don’t actually believe He wants to give us good things?  Do a little soul searching about this question today.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, indeed if we, with all our failures, want to give good gifts to our children, how much more must you want to give good things to us.
