“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…” (Romans 8:1, NIV)
This is one of my all time favorite verses. As someone who can be very hard on myself, I know the sting of condemnation. Hearing that there is no condemnation for the Christian truly hits a nerve, because condemnation is something I’m all too familiar with. No condemnation. None. But that doesn’t mean that Jesus just turns a blind eye to our sins and shortcomings…no, not at all. So if Jesus doesn’t condemn, what gives?
Conviction. Do you feel convicted by your shortcomings and sin? YES! The work of the Holy Spirit is to convict the Jesus follower, and through that discomfort, move you toward correction and conversion.
There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, but the Lord does want to convict you and convert you. Will you allow God’s correction in your life? It might not be comfortable, but it is complete…God’s complete love, God’s complete mercy, and God’s complete forgiveness.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for yearning to convict me so I can correct my behavior. Forgive me for the times I see this as condemnation, especially in the times I condemn myself. Help me to experience the fullness of your complete love, mercy, and forgiveness, changing my life so I can live for you. I ask this in the name of Christ Jesus. Amen!
