God’s Gift

by Pastor Mark Jordan

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV)

The last couple days we have looked at how God wants to save you. He doesn’t condemn you, but He does convict you so you can correct your behavior. This is all based on God’s grace—which you can’t deserve—but God yearns to give it to you because of His love. This is God’s free gift to you through faith.

This is a BIG day in our family. Ethan turns 16 years old. Wow…it hardly seems possible! A couple weeks ago we talked to him about what he wanted for his Sweet Sixteen. There was one thing he wanted: a new computer so he can do more specialized work on his art projects, which is inspiring him to the point of considering it for a career. When it arrived, he tore into it with a feeling of anticipation and glee that just bubbled out of him. Tiffany and I were so happy to give him this gift that he really wanted and needed, and we were full of pride to see his joy, knowing it is a gift he loves and will use. I can’t imagine giving Ethan a gift that he could care less about opening, much less enjoying. There was so much joy for us in seeing our precious son open his gift, and as much joy in watching him begin to figure it out.

God longs to give you salvation as a gift. Will you accept it, “open” it, and put it to use? This is the gift that God longs to give you, and see what you’ll do with it. Your life is designed to be a work of art…a masterpiece…so let God continue to weave you into His plans to transform the world. It is God’s gift!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of salvation. I accept it and want to live into it, thanks to the amazing grace you give me in Jesus. I lift this prayer in His name. Amen.
