act like a hero

by Pastor Mark Jordan

“Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance.” (Colossians 3:23, MSG)

I hope you’re feeling more heroic this week as we Hero Up! for Jesus. Yesterday we looked at thinking like a hero, and today we take that another step by looking at acting like a hero.

Today’s verse reminds me of my time leading a Cub Scout group, teaching the boys to do your best. This harkens back to our topic on disciplined living. Taking that a step farther today, when you do your best, you must remember you are serving God by serving others. This can cause some confusion, but you must remember you’re leading others to a God-saved life by following God. Once your thinking is transformed from the inside-out, your behavior will be, too.

When you accept Jesus as your Savior, God’s Holy Spirit comes to live and reign in you. You are then given spiritual gifts for which to serve God by serving others. The special giftedness God grants you isn’t for your benefit, but for those you are called to serve in God’s name. Borrowing yesterday’s illustration from the Justice League movie, The Flash used his super speed to save one hostage, realizing he was called to save all he could, before joining the rest of the team to battle the big bad villain. You might not have super speed, but you do have spiritual gifts and abilities given by God for you to use in leading others to a God-saved life. Use them. Act like a hero!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for blessing me especially for the task of helping others know you. Help me use my spiritual gifts for you for the sake of others. I ask this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
