“You were all called to travel on the same road and in the same direction, so stay together, both outwardly and inwardly. You have one Master, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who rules over all, works through all, and is present in all. Everything you are and think and do is permeated with Oneness.” (Ephesians 4:4-6, MSG)
Yesterday we began looking at the idea of unity, which is neutral in-and-of itself. We can unite over good things, but we can also unite around bad things. For the Christian, we are called to unite around one thing: the Lord Jesus Christ.
Today’s passage from Ephesians reminds us that we are called to travel on the same road and in the same direction. This echoes Jesus’ teaching that the road to heaven is narrow. As we travel, we must do so both internally and externally, so our unity is complete. This begins in your heart as you confess Jesus as Lord of your life. You receive the one water of Baptism. You experience God’s presence and power in your heart, and this translates to the way you live your life externally. It become holistic holiness!
As you think about the many things that can divide your attention, remember the one thing: Jesus. He calls you to the one road, where He leads you the one way to the truth and life of God. This one thing will change your life!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I want to go the one way with you. Help me to experience your grace so I may express fain in the one truth that leads to eternal life. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
