“It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6, MSG)

Have you ever given much thought to what pleases God? My guess is most of the time when we do, it is connected to good deeds. Now don’t get me wrong, I think God loves to see us doing good, and being good, but why? Good deeds can’t save you…only God can do that…so why do good deeds? You do them out of a response in faith to what God has done, is doing, and promises to do for you. It gets to your motivations.

Hebrews teaches that faith is required to please God. This gets to the base line of life with the Lord. You must first acknowledge that God is real, and that He cares. Once you do this, your life begins to change where the things you care about change, too. This is where your good deeds come into the picture. You do good, because you know God is real, God cares, and wants you to care about the things He cares about, too.

God cares about you, and He wants to respond to your needs. He might do this through someone else, and then use you to meet someone else’s needs through the things you care about. It’s really pretty cool, isn’t it? So know God is real and cares about you. Let this knowledge help change you so you can use your life to help others know that God is real and cares about them, too!

Prayer: Dear God thank you for loving me. I know you are real and care about me. May my knowledge of that help me show others you are real and care, too, so we may approach you in love and faith. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
