look

by Pastor Mark Jordan

“Watch this: God’s eye is on those who respect him, the ones who are looking for his love. He’s ready to come to their rescue in bad times; in lean times he keeps body and soul together.” (Psalm 33:18-19, MSG)

Are you going through some tough times right now? Does it feel like you’re going to fall apart at any moment, for anything? You can rest assured that God knows, and God cares.

Today’s verse says that God is ready to come to your rescue and hold you together. This predates the message we get from the New Testament that Jesus existed before any and everything else, and in Him, the whole cosmos is held together (Colossians 1:17). Jesus is God’s glue that mends and binds, and God is ready to come help.

Today’s verse also gives an instruction that goes along with this: look. The Psalmist essentially says to keep an eye out for people in need, and see how God responds. Something I believe to be true is God’s preferred M.O. is to mobilize people to step up and step out to help others in need. So when you hear the instruction to look to see God in action, it is a reminder that the hero God might deploy is YOU!

How might you help God help others hold it together today? Jesus is the glue for sure, but it might be that God wants you to be the hands and feet that applies it. Will you make yourself available? Will you look for the chance to help? I hope so!

Prayer: Dear Lord, I know you want to mend and hold together those who feel like the world is falling apart around them. I pray that I might look for those opportunities and be ready to help however, and whenever, I am needed. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
