“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31b-32, NIV)

Yesterday in our daily water we explored walking in the light with Jesus where we walk in the light of truth. There is great power in the light, which I want us to visit today.

Jesus said that knowing the truth sets you free. As we consider how if feels to be broken down, rebuilt, corrected, directed, and led into the light, we see there is a reason for this: to be set free. It is the truth that does this. The truth that teaches you can’t do this work on your own, and the truth that any attempt not only will fail, but imprison you in failure. Jesus wants to introduce you to this freedom-setting truth. It isn’t just a concept or precept, though…no, it is so much more.

In John 14:6, Jesus revealed that the truth is a person. HE is the truth! He is the way! He is also eternal life. When you walk with Jesus, you walk according to His ways, and according to God’s truth. This, my friends, is what sets you free from the prison of failure and defeat. Hold on to that truth, because as one of Jesus’ disciples, He is holding on to you.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for claiming me as one of your own. I want to be set free into your truth, and be really free indeed. I give me life to you in the name of Jesus. Amen.
