“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35, NIV)
We had a great week in our daily water looking at ways to build the body of Christ. As we went through the various installments, we came to the unmistakable truth that we must also allow Jesus to work on (and in) us as He sets us free for service in His kingdom. As we close out our weekly theme, we come full circle, back to the heart of the matter when we began.
Jesus gave a new commandment as He neared the end of His earthly ministry, which was to love. He said that others will know we are His based on how we love others. The broken. The lost. The weary. The wayward. The collected. The redeemed. Everyone.
We started this week with an instruction to look for how God holds together those who feel broken in body and soul. You must realize you might be the one God calls to apply the love of God’s glue in Jesus…the one in whom God holds all things together. This leads you to help God build His Family by building others up, not always tearing them down. It is Jesus’ job to correct and direct, and there is no one better to do that work, as He brings light into the world to set you free from your various prisons. Will you walk in the light of Christ, knowing that He is truth, and the way that leads you to eternity? If so, then love. Love. Love God. Love others. When you do, it will be obvious to everyone.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for loving me. I know that the way I love you and others will show all to whom I belong: YOU! Help me to love you and others in ways that will help all people know how much you love us. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
