WWJUD? Hollow Worship!

“This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far away from me. Their worship of me is empty since they teach instructions that are human rules.” (Matthew 15:8-9, CEB)
This week we are looking at the things Jesus would have us unlearn so we can learn from Him. Yesterday we explored apathy and looking to fan the flames of faith. Today, we will look at hollow worship.
Hollow worship is the kind where you put yourself at the center, looking to have your preferences met. This is not true worship! Worship is about putting and keeping God at the center. If anything other than God is at the center, it is hollow. For the Pharisees, it was their rules that tried to determine who was worthy. That might not be an issue for you, but something might be. When God is at the center of your worship, His love and grace fills and overflows into every aspect of your life.
As you look to learn from the relational love of God in Jesus, make sure He is at the center of your worship. If anything else is there, it is hollow. Let God fill, overflow, and flow from you by putting Him at the center of your worship.
Prayer: Dear Lord, please forgive me for putting anything other than you at the center of my worship. I want you at the center so your mercy and grace may fill me, and overflow from me. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
