“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.” (Matthew 5:14, MSG)

Do you have any idea what happened 89 years ago this week? There is a clue with the picture I posted. The first demonstration of the color TV took place in 1929. Though the color TV wouldn’t flood the market for several more years, it’s hard to imagine life today without them.

Our family did have a black-and-white TV we enjoyed for a while. Eventually, my brother and I inherited it for our bedroom, which is how I watched many a Braves game back in the day. When we went to all color, though, it was like what Dorothy must have felt when she landed in Oz and everything was in color. That shift was dramatic then, and still is today.

There are people walking in darkness all around you. They need the light of hope that comes from Jesus. Jesus shares His light with you and me so we can shine it to the world and help people know that God is real, God loves them, and has a purpose for their lives. The way The Message version states this is you are here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. Beautiful image, huh?

Who in your life could use the dramatic shift from black-and-white living to being flooded with God-color? Let the simple, yet profound image of moving to color TV help you see how life can be different when you do.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your light, showing me the God-colors all around me. Forgive me for the times I get lost in the drab reality of our world, and help me to shine your light and cast your color where I go, and with whomever I meet. I ask this in the name of Jesus, the Light of the World. Amen.
