Are you spiritually hydrated?

by Beth Tidwell

Lack of spiritual hydration will cause us to wither away.  In John 7:37-39, Jesus says, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

When life keeps us busy and we can’t always make it to church or bible study for replenishment, we still need to devote time for “re-hydration”.   Even though we make excuses for not making time each day for God, none of them are valid.  Did you ever catch yourself giving God a lame excuse for what you were doing or not doing? Do we really think we could pull the wool over God’s eyes with our excuse? How often we try to justify our questionable activities or lazy inactivity to the Lord and think that He is somehow impressed with stories that are nothing more than excuses. We know it and the Lord knows it! It’s a wonder that God doesn’t call out to us from heaven, “Excuses, excuses! All I ever hear are excuses!”

Ouch, ouch, ouch! I’ve always said “relationships are a two-way street” but I realize that I take my most important relationship (with God) for granted a lot.  As tough as it may be to admit, if you and I are too busy to cultivate our relationship with God, then something is wrong—something has to change. The change required may be a relatively minor adjustment in our schedule, or it may be a drastic reordering of priorities.

We should ask ourselves every day “how am I going to spend time today with the one who gives me life?”  There are so many ways to do it.   Make a commitment to do it and don’t allow yourself to dehydrate.

“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” Jeremiah 31:25

Thank you Lord for reminding me how important it is to find ways each day to spend quality time with you through your Word.   Thank you for your love, mercy & grace.  Amen
