Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
On my walk a few mornings ago, I was looking at the ground and came within three steps of stepping on an armadillo! I realized that I spent my whole walk looking down at my feet to make sure my next step was on solid ground and something wasn’t going to trip me up. Because I was doing that, I was missing all the beautiful things around me. The rest of the walk I intentionally looked up and saw three deer and a bunny. I took in all the beautiful flowers and shrubs.
I thought about my Christian walk. I am very cautious. I am so afraid of stepping wrong that I am very focused on my decisions and choices. While some of that is a good thing, I realized that I am not trusting God enough and paying attention to all the amazing things and opportunities around me. I am sure that I have missed a lot of the things the God has sent my way because of my need for secure footing.
Megan’s screensaver is “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”. If we are comfortable, we are probably not living up to the potential that God has for our lives.
Prayer: Dear God, help us to trust more in you and to be ok with being uncomfortable. You call us to do great things. May we listen and go wherever you call us to go and do whatever you call us to do. Help us to remember to always look to you for guidance instead of trusting our own feet.
