“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” (Zephaniah 3:17, NLT)
Aaah, I needed this verse today. Do you know that feeling when you read a verse and it just resonates with you? This is one of those verses, on a number of fronts.
The Book of Zephaniah is a prophetic writing to the country of Judah. The purpose was to warn about disobedience toward God in light of Israel’s exile, hoping that a return to God would being about mercy. This serves as a reminder that God is a loving God, a protecting God, and a comforting God.
Maybe this speaks to you today. Have you experienced God’s mercy from a once wayward lifestyle? Do you believe that God fights for you? Do you believe that God delights in you? After all, He made you. Do you feel God calming all your fears with His love? Can you hear Him singing over you the heavenly lullabies that soothe your soul? Today’s verse says God does all of this — He lives within you, fights for you, delights in you, loves you, calms you, and sings over you.
May this knowledge set your day on the right path, and help you live the way He created and calls you to live…as His.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for this powerful reminder of how you love me. You live within me, fight for me, delight in me, love me, calm me, and sing over me. Tune my heart to hear you, so your help may encourage and empower me to share your love with others. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
