one thing

“Jesus replied, ‘The most important one is Israel, listen! Our God is the one Lord, and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this, You will love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these.’” (Mark 12:29-31, CEB)

Yesterday we began a new series entitled, “small things…BIG DIFFERENCE.” The aim of this series is to help us look at the difference God wants to make in your life, and realize that it all comes down to one thing: love. Jesus taught that to love God with all you have and are, and loving others as you love yourself, is the most important thing in life. It might sound easy enough, but it can be quite difficult when you realize that to truly love means you have to put others first. Ouch. But I have some good news…

Even though the main things for everyone’s life is the same, the beauty is you get to find what makes you special and unique as a way to live it out with God and others. When you live out your unique design with loving God and others as your focus — and others do, too — then love really does make the world go round. God wants you to use your “one thing” in life, connecting it with everyone ele’s “one thing,” to spread the love needed to transform the world.

What small things toward the “one thing” can you begin doing right now to make a BIG DIFFERENCE right where you are? It begins and ends with love, so look for some small things you can do right now to make a BIG DIFFERENCE for God and others. It will change the world, beginning with you.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for loving me. Help me to see that love is indeed the most important thing…loving you and others. Forgive me the times I look to be loved as opposed to love first. I want to follow your lead, and love with all I am and have. I ask this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
