don’t give up

by Mary Stout

Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. So then, let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity, and especially for those in the household of faith. Galatians 6:9-10

The other day my little 5 year old grandson came home and sat down next to me. He looked me straight in the eye and said,

“I am so frustrated!” I asked him why and he said, Cause I can’t figure out how to get a smiley.” You see when he has a good day at school he gets a smiley. That day he had a few things that went wrong so he didn’t get one. I smiled at him and told him that sometimes we can get tired of trying to do good but we have to keep trying. We talked about ways to do better and he seemed satisfied.

Just as a child will get frustrated over trying to do good, we are counseled to  remember the opportunities set before us as we begin our new journey. Amidst the exhaustion of moving, getting to know others at Trinity, and getting used to the new place, we need to lift one another up as we join together in sharing the Good News with others. We can never give up even when we are tired. There may be bumps in the road because we are humans. Those things are not what we need to focus on. It is our faith and focus in what God did for us that will forge our way. As long as we look to the cross we will find it’s a glorious opportunity to shine the Light of Jesus into our community and beyond. Let’s walk this road together and place our faith not in anything or anyone but Jesus. Even when it is tiring or hard we can never give up. God never gave up on us.

Prayer: Father I know there are days I am tired from doing good or it seems hard to continue on. Help me to look to the cross when that happens. Keep my eyes on the cross so I will recognize when I need to lift my fellow man up or show someone your love. Thank you for giving me Jesus snd help me to do good each day. In his name I pray Amen.
