“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7, NKJV)
Today’s verse is a meaningful one. It reminds me of the great Descartes quote, “I think therefore I am.” When we read it in the Biblical wisdom, though, we see that your thoughts dictate the direction of your life.
Have you found this to be true? I sure have! When I am thinking glass-half-empty thoughts, everything seems to be going against me. When I think glass-half-full thoughts, I can see God’s fingerprints all over me, even when the times can be tough. And such is the challenge for living.
Earlier in Proverbs, Solomon wrote, “More than anything you guard, protect your mind, for life flows from it“ (CEB). Truth! You have the ability and responsibility to protect your thoughts which dictate the direction of your life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I want to think your thoughts. Forgive me for the times when I allow my mind to run wild, causing my life to drift away from you. I want my head and heart to be in agreement, and pray for your Spirit to make that happen. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
