“Seek God while he’s here to be found, pray to him while he’s close at hand. Let the wicked abandon their way of life and their evil way of thinking. Let them come back to God, who is merciful, come back to our God, who is lavish with forgiveness.” (Isaiah 55:6, MSG)
Today’s verse is a call to everyone, but especially those who have moved away from the Lord. Isaiah’s words come in a section where God is just short of pleading with His people to turn from their wayward ways and embrace the forgiveness and mercy He yearns to bestow.
There is a word for this: repentance. Repentance literally means to make a 180° turn, both in thought and behavior. You see this spelled out in today’s verse as Isaiah said the wicked must “abandon their way of life and their evil way of thinking.” Repentance essentially requires two things: confess you sin and come to your forgiving God.
May these two words frame your thinking and behavior today. Confess your waywardness. Come home to God. Receive the forgiveness God longs to lavish upon you. Let it change your life…now and forever!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I know I am guilty of sinful thinking and behavior. Forgive me. I confess my sins and turn away from my old ways of living so I can come to you. Thank you for your forgiveness and mercy. I need you and love you. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
