GOD FIRST in Your Interests

by Pastor Mark Jordan

Proverbs 3:6 (TLB) | “In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.”

This week we are exploring ways to put God FIRST in your life as a way to express Extravagant Generosity. Yesterday we talked about trusting and testing God with your finances. Today we look at the ‘I’ in our acrostic and your interests.

God made you with unique interests as a way to glorify His love of creativity. Sometimes our interests get distorted and become sinful. This goes to show that even the best things, when misused, distort the image of God within us; therefore, when it comes to your interests, you must keep others in mind, too.

Philippians 2:4 teaches, “Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” This means connection, and realizing the things that interest you can help others see God’s glorious love and design. God made you with your love of things, but not just for a solitary endeavor. These are people who can become your closest friends and fiercest allies in the battle against sin in the world.

Know that God gave you your interests and wants you to use them to connect with someone else for your sake and their’s, all to glorify God. Will you let them?

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the unsearchable creativity in which you made me. Help me to use my interests to connect with others and glorify you. I need support, and I know we all do. My interests help me find those in this life who can support me and hold me accountable, and for that, I’m grateful. I pray in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
