Proverbs 3:6 (TLB) | “In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.”
This week we are exploring how we can be extravagantly generous in our lives. So far we have explored putting God first in your finances, interests, and relationships, with the idea that God and the world needs you the way you were designed and created. Perhaps this is nowhere more evident than in your service, which is where all of these other topics seem to meet.
Jesus taught that service is what makes one great. This comes down to your willingness to look for ways to serve God by serving others, letting them know of God’s amazing grace and love that sets you free from the corrupted image of God caused by sin. Your service helps you live this out, and helps others see a clearer picture of God’s original design.
Consider what the Apostle Paul wrote about service in Galatians 5:13-14, “It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom (MSG).”
Authentic service reveals God in you for the sake of others. See how this connects with your generosity in finances, interests, and relationships? Serving God by serving others helps God change the world. Will you let Him use you?
Prayer: Dear Lord, forgive me when I approach life with a self serving attitude as opposed to serving others. Help me live into my service through my relationships, connected by my interests, and made possible by my financial generosity. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
