GOD FIRST with your Time

by Pastor Mark Jordan

Proverbs 3:6 (TLB) | “In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.”

Today we close out the weekly series as we’ve considered how to put God FIRST in our lives. From your finances to your interests to your relationships and through your service, you can help magnify the presence of God for others, as well as your own life. To do this, though, you have to make and give the time.

Time is in short supply for all of us these days, isn’t it? We never feel we have as much time as we want, when in reality, what we need more of is energy. This means much like your finances, you have to budget your time properly so you can maximize the impact of what you do have.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gave some awesome insight to help us better manage our time. He taught, “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes (Matthew 6:34, MSG). Though this section is probably better known as a defense against worry, the message about paying attention to what God is doing right now is the best use of your time. Once you see where God is at work, you can join Him and allow His power to magnify your own resources of time, energy, and money in your interests, relationships, and service.

Give God your time and attention. Let Him direct your ways. Be extravagantly generous with yourself, and watch to see what God does next. I think you’ll be glad you did.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I give you my time and attention. Help me to use all of my resources in a way to glorify you can magnify your presence everywhere I go and in everything I do. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
