Lamps and Lasers…GOD Needs them All

by Pastor Mark Jordan

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16, NRSV)

I love today’s verse…it is one of my favorite life verses. Jesus is indeed the Light of the World (John 1:4, 8:12), but He chooses to share it with His followers. Why? So we all share in shining His light.

Lights come in different shapes, sizes, colors, and brightness. Some give a soft light to add ambiance to a room, while some lights — like lasers — are so concentrated they can burn through things. The world needs them all, just like the world needs all the different kinds of spiritual lights God designed. This is because God designed everyone to shine!

God needs you to shine in the world. Your light might flood an area with the ambiance of love. Maybe your light is like a laser intended to pierce through the dense defenses of darkness. Even if your light shines somewhere in between, it is needed to shine and point people to the fact that God is still good.

Can you do this for the Lord? Will you?

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being my light in the darkness. Help me determine how you designed me to shine so I may illuminate your love everywhere I go, and show that you are still good. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
