“Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people…” (Luke 1:68, NKJV)
Today’s verse comes from Zechariah’s prophecy about who was still to come. Contextually, in today’s verse, Jesus was not yet born, but he was just weeks away. Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, knew his son would prepare the way for the Lord. As Zechariah started his prophecy, he mentioned about how God visited His people to redeem them. Things were about to change, though.
Just a few months after John the Baptist’s birth, Jesus was born. Friends, that changed everything! For now, God wasn’t just coming to visit people in order to redeem them, He was coming to earth to live.
The Gospel of John (written by a different John) referenced how John the Baptist came to pave the way for Jesus. As the Gospel writer, John started, God came in Jesus to dwell in the flesh with His people. I love how The Message version states this; check it out: “The Word became flesh and blood,
