being different

by Mary Stout

“For in him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)

Do we really? As Christians we truly need to think about it. I am betting that you have spells of busyness, and are up to your eyeballs in paperwork days where you don’t actually think about living and moving and having your being in God.

Every single one of us fail at times. We talk a good talk and we walk a good walk…on Sunday. Raise your hand if you are guilty as well. I am sure most of you raised your hand. That is okay. It is perfectly ok. That’s why we need Jesus to master our day, to show us the way, and guard us from ourselves at times. It’s why as this new year begins we need to make sure we are studying the Word and getting to know Him better.

To reflect the Light of Jesus to the lost, we must fill ourselves with who he is in the word. If we want to shine his light so that people will be curious and want to know Jesus too we must read. As John Wesley said, “It cannot be that the people should grow in grace unless they give themselves to reading. A reading people is a knowing people.” We are called to service each one of us in some capacity. May this year be the year you know him so well that you truly live and move and have your being in Him.

Prayer: Father God we know there are times we fail in our daily lives. Help us to begin knowing you by your word. Help us realize that with you all things are possible even in the busiest times or the struggles. Help us to live and move and have our being in you above the din of life. In Jesus name Amen
