“In tight circumstances, I cried out to the Lord. The Lord answered me with wide-open spaces. The Lord is for me—I won’t be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” (Psalm 118:5-6, CEB)
I immediately thought of Rock City in Chattanooga when I read today’s verse. Chattanooga is the first little away trip Tiffany and I took together, and we had a blast! We visited many of the tourist destinations and marveled at the unique beauty. When we went to Rock City, we held our breaths through some of the narrow paths, like Fat Man Squeeze, and had a great exhale on Lookout Mountain, where it’s said you can see seven states. Two dramatically different experiences in one environment.
It seems to me that’s a great metaphor for life. Whether you’re at home, work, school, church, wherever, you can experience the tightness of a squeeze, and the the relief of the wide-open space. The best news is the whatever you go through, God is with you.
God is truly for you. King David wrote about it, just as the Apostle Paul did in Romans 8:31. Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promise that He is with you…always. So know that whatever today holds, and whenever it takes you — the tight squeezes, the wide-open spaces, and everywhere in between — that God is walking right there with you.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for being with me in all places and all things. I know you are for me, and with that knowledge, nothing of importance can be against me. Help me to cry out to you, and in doing so, feel your blessed presence. I ask this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
