Psalm 27:6 | The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
I had an uncle that recently passed and I thought about his life. It certainly wasn’t one I would classify as easy by any stretch. He was in the textile business and lost many jobs due to the market going overseas. His marriage was challenging among other family issues but as I reflect on his life, he was truly one of the happiest people I knew.
I can at times get caught up in my problems and forget to choose happiness like my uncle. I sometimes lose sight of the fact that it is a choice. Some of the happiest people that I know are ones that their lives are full of obstacles. It is a great reminder that it truly isn’t what happens to you but your reaction to it. God wants us to be full of his light and his joy but the world makes it easy to forget. I put up a sticky note to help me remember to choose happiness. I must root myself in the promises of God and turn all worries and fears over to him.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Help me to remember to look to you instead of getting bogged down with earthly worries. Help me to shine your light and your love to others around me.
