For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands… (
Have you ever made a campfire? It is not as simple of a matter as making a pile of logs and throwing a match on it. First you start with a small pile of kindling that is made up of small dry sticks and leaves. When you light this, you often must coax the ember into flame by blowing gently on them. Once you have a small flame, you start adding more kindling, then bigger sticks and finally the logs that will be the main fuel source.
God has given us a gift. In some people, it is already a roaring, easily maintained fire. In other, it is just a small ember. Both in ourselves and in those God has placed in our lives for us to mentor, we need to treat that flame like the gentle ember that needs to be built up to a roaring fire. How do we do that? Prayer, reading the word, worship, sitting under sound biblical teaching and mentorship, being in community with other believers, having accountability partners and mentoring those that are not as far along the path as we are.
What can you do today to fan you into flame the gift that God has given you?
Praye: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift you have given to me. I pray my actions are in line with your will for my life and that they help fan into flame that gift.
