That’s the Truth

By Pastor Mark Jordan

“[God] wants not only us but everyone saved, you know, everyone to get to know the truth we’ve learned: that there’s one God and only one, and one Priest-Mediator between God and us—Jesus, who offered himself in exchange for everyone held captive by sin, to set them all free.” (2 Timothy 2:4-6, MSG)

I love today’s verse! God wants everyone saved! Does that bring you comfort? It does me. Paul went on to talk about how this is the truth that he learned, which is Jesus is the means by which God allows for the forgiveness of sin. Jesus is the one and only Son of God, and His one-time sacrifice sets everyone free!

This is consistent with what Jesus taught. In John 8:32, we read that Jesus said the truth sets us free. This comes right after taking about abiding in His teaching, which is summed up in loving God and others with all you have and are, because God first loved us (Luke 10:27, 1 John 4:19). And as we later see, Jesus described Himself as the way, the truth, and the life, and the only One who can lead you to God the Father (John 14:6).

So there you have it, and that’s the TRUTH! God loves you…He loves everyone…and wants all of us to be saved. This is why He sent Jesus, to set us free from the captivity of sin by offering Himself as the sacrifice to pay the sin-debt. Do you believe it?

It will set you free.

I will save you.

And that’s the truth!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your truth. I thank you that is isn’t just a precept, but it’s a person…Jesus! I believe in His life, death, and resurrection, graciously accepting your offer to forgive and save me. I, therefore, lift this prayer in his holy name. Amen.
