Through Tough Times

By Mary Stout

“Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift.”

Great quote for most people.

Except when you are sad.

Or anxious.

Or feeling lost.

Or feeling worthless.

Or brain fog sets in.

Or any number of things.

Here are  a few passages that you can use to help you get through those times.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

God’s promise when you are going through times of struggle is that he will help you and strengthen you and hold you up when you feel afraid. Think of your child. When your child is afraid you would scoop them up and hold them, love on them and assure them that you are there for them. This is how God the Father says he will care for you. Let him comfort you and allow his love to comfort you.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29-31).

When you feel like you are alone, He knows you even inside the storms you are facing. In this verse, we see when a sparrow falls, the Lord knows. Know he is with you too as you walk, as you stumble, and even when you fall. If he cares for the sparrow, He will care for you.

When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself. Enter the silence. Bow in prayer. Don’t ask questions: Wait for hope to appear” (Lamentations 3:28-30, MSG).

It’s great to have wise counsel of fellow believers. That certainly helps. The best place to go is your Father, Wait for God’s answer. Keep your eyes on the hope he provides.  As you pray, your faith will increase and your fear will dissipate REMEMBER, “God proves to be good to the man who passionately waits, to the woman who diligently seeks. It’s a good thing to quietly hope, quietly hope for help from God” (Lamentations 3:25-26, MSG).

Prayer: Father we ask for your help when we get low or feel alone. We ask you to help us with our unbelief as we pray. Help us to wait on you. Help us surrender and give you the glory for when we overcome. In Jesus name AMEN.
