“…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” (Hebrews 12:1b, NIV)
The other day I carefully wound up my earphones to put them in my pocket so I could have them while working. No matter how carefully I wound them, when I took them out of my pocket, it was as though some gremlin got in there and tangled them in some crazy way. While I was untangling them, I almost thought about throwing them away and getting a new set. It was crazy!
That got me thinking about sin. The writer of Hebrews, as we read in today’s Bible verse, taught about how easily sin entangles. It generally sneaks up on you and gets out of control, leaving you to wonder (A) how it got so bad, and (B) if it’s even worth the effort to make it right. Don’t let that leave you discouraged, though.
God gave us Jesus to help us deal with the problems caused by sin. Jesus was known to say that “all who have ears should listen.” That’s great advice! He wants to help everyone overcome the sin that so easily entangles and show an abundant life you never thought possible. So don’t give up. Don’t throw out your life. Listen up for the Master’s offer to help, and take Him up on it. You’ll be glad you did!
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for loving me. I see how easy it is to get entangled in sin, leaving my life a mess. I concede it is easy for me to just want to give up, but that isn’t your plan for me. By your grace and mercy, help me live a life that only you know is possible. I pray this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
