“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.” (Romans 13:8, NIV)
Debt. It’s an interesting thing, isn’t it? It’s easy to borrow, and no fun to pay back. One of the things that makes debt so difficult is interest. Taking a credit card for example, it’s easy to whip it out to pay for a $50 dinner, but that same meal could cost you hundreds if you take time to pay it off.
Scripture advises against debt. The wisdom is to work as hard as possible to pay back your debts so you can put your resources to future endeavors as opposed to those in the past. Taking interest into account, if you think of love as something you owe others, then guess what? It multiplies!!!
What a cool idea. God wants your interest to be loving people into the future and not paying for things in the past. This magnifies your endeavors and compounds your return. It’s all about love, so look for ways to love people to the heart of Jesus…there’s no greater impact than that!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I know I have to fight the temptation to “have-it-now.” Just like Jesus gave of his life to save me, help me to save my resources so my endeavors can be invested into loving people to you. I want the return of my life to be multiplied for you, and it can be so with Jesus’ help. I lift this prayer in His name. Amen.
