“Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! (Psalm 116:2, NLT)
We live in a world that is increaingly secular and suffering. Watching the news is overwhelming. There are more people suffering from addiction, mental illness, and any number of sins today. Some days it can feel like God has left us alone to deal with this hostile environment. Indeed, there are parts of the world being a Christian can be dangerous. That’s usually when God shows up and shines. In our darkest hour, his light illuminates our path and renews us.
As I drove to work one day, the news was filled with crisis after crisis, leaving my heart a little sad. As I walked into work, I was surprised to find God in the middle of the pharmacy aisle. Two older ladies, holding hands, their heads bowed, quietly talking to the Father. That’s such an unusual sight these days. It warmed my heart and renew my spirit to see the Lord is still at work in this world. From these bold women, I gathered a bit of hope. They never saw me and I’m sure they don’t know how their boldness renewed my spirit. The little miraculous moment in the middle of a store was God saying, “I got this.”
Growing into your faith can be challenging. It’s easy to see all the hard stuff of the world. If you take time to look around and pray to see with God’s eyes and hear with God’s ears, he will show you his glory even in this messed up world.
Prayer: Lord help us to remember prayer is the means to growing closer to you. We can know your strength and hope when we give you our mess, our sadness and pain. Help us boldly pray without ceasing and shine your light everywhere.in Jesus name. Amen.
