Drawn to God

By Pastor Mark Jordan

“The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.'” (Jeremiah 31:3, NIV)

What is something that seems to have a magnetic draw for you? I can think of quite a few things in my personal life, and I imagine you can, too. These items compel us deep from within, and give us the blessed mix of creativity, ingenuity, and idealism. How would you feel if I told you that God has the same thought when it comes to you?

Today’s verse is one I had to ponder and contemplate for a couple hours. It is a verse familiar to me, but as I started focusing on the everlasting love, I seemed to miss the impact of being drawn with an unfailing kindness. As the profundity struck me about being drawn to God, everything seemed to make sense and a whole fresh perspective emerged.

God loves you with an everlasting love! Unfortunately, we tend to love things that have expiration dates; not with God, though. As God draws you with kindness, he performs a miracle of eternal proportions. Whereas your flesh has an expiration date, your soul does not. So when God loves you with an everlasting love, and draws you with unfailing kindness, He longs to bestow upon you the gift of eternal life.

Do you feel God’s love? Do you find yourself drawn to his unfailing kindness? There is no doubt you have an expiration date without the Lord’s love in your life. Let him draw you to Himself so you can experience the blessedness of eternity, beginning right here and now.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for loving me with an eternal love. Forgive me the times I give my love to things with frighteningly close expiration dates. Your unfailing kindness draws me to you, and I want to live with you forever. I pray in the name of Jesus, amen.
