I have a unique conversation starter in my office. It is a small plastic replica of an Oscar with my name engraved on it. It catches people’s eye as they walk past, and so many have picked it up to marvel at the reminder of this great accomplishment that no one knew I achieved. Of course it isn’t a real Academy Award, but a reminder that I participated in, and completed an ‘academy’ for the practice of ministry. It might be a silly little thing, but it reminds me of a year of study, conferencing, and growth.
Chances are you have something that reminds you of an accomplishment; a trophy, diploma, or medal. It reminds you of your hard work and dedication. What if I were to tell you that God has something similar? He does — His holy and forever family.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us, “…we are God’s accomplishment, created in Christ Jesus to do good things. God planned for these good things to be the way that we live our lives” (CEB). It took a lot of hard work for God to accomplish this work of salvation and reconciliation…the blood of Jesus. But all the hard work and sacrifice was worth it, and the beautiful tapestry of eternity is the evidence of it all.
So don’t sell yourself short. You aren’t a silly novelty…you are evidence of God’s accomplishment. Live like it. Will you?
Prayer: Dear Lord, it’s hard for me to think about being symbolic of your accomplishment, but the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears is all the evidence I need. Help me to live accordingly, for you and others. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
