Check out this great quote from Walt Whitman, “Keep your face always toward the sunshine — and shadows will fall behind you.” It seems like simple physics, doesn’t it? If you face a light source, then you cast the shadow. If, on the other hand, you keep the light to your back, it feels as though you are in the shadow.
1 John 1:5 teaches, “This is the message God has given us to pass on to you: that God is Light and in him is no darkness at all” (TLB). Jesus set the foundation for this in what we know as John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (NIV).
I want to walk in the light, and I want the same for you. There is so much darkness in the world to be sure, but you don’t have live there. Don’t just face the light, but walk in it, because when you do, the darkness can’t do anything about it (John 1:5).
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for loving me. I can experience so much darkness in life, but in that I sense I have a choice: concentrate on the shadows, or cast them by staying focused on you. Now that I think and pray about it, there really is no choice at all. Thank you for Jesus light, and help me to stay in it now and forever. Amen.
