Help for Anxiety

By Pastor Mark Jordan

I awoke the other day filled with anxiety. Have you ever had that happen? Before your feet hit the floor, you’re so wound up about something, or some things, that the (hopefully) peaceful night sleep has almost been negated. I crawled out of bed, fixed my coffee, and opened my tablet to read my Bible lessons for quiet time. As soon as I did, I was met with today’s verse…

“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.”
(Proverbs 12:25, NIV)

Truth. I needed to shift my focus from what I feared others were saying about me, to what God wants to say to me. So I did a simple search about times when Jesus said to be of good cheer. This is what I found, which coincidentally, is one of my life verses…

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33, NKJV)

That’s some good news, isn’t it?! Jesus knows you might be anxious because of all the trouble in the world. Still, He wants YOU to be at peace and of good cheer, because He overcame the trouble-causing world.

If you’re feeling anxious, troubled, or weighed down today, remember Jesus’s words. Let them lift your heart and mind from the struggles to place where Jesus is.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for lifting me up when I feel weighted down. I want to be cheerful, and I need your peace. Help me to find it today by looking beyond my troubles to find the truth in you. I ask this in the healing and helping name of Christ.Amen.
