This week is the third week in Advent. The Pink Candle is the Shepherd’s candle. It symbolizes Joy. When the shepherds were visited by the angels they were the first ones to welcome and worship the Baby Jesus into the world.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2: 8-12
The shepherds were just regular people doing their jobs just like you and me. God chose the shepherds just as he chose us. He wanted us to know we are all being offered the gift of life eternal. From the beginning of time, He chose us. Not rich people or kings or queens or Jewish leaders. He chose shepherds. He chose us.
Can you imagine the joy the shepherds felt as they worshipped before the new King? I wonder how their lives changed that night. Just as they shared in that first night’s glory, may each of us be joyful each day as Christmas day approaches.
How will you share the glory of Christ’s upcoming birth with those around you?
Prayer: Father, let us share the strength we have in you as we joyfully worship and go about our day. May our joy touch a soul or mend a heart and bring you glory. In Jesus name Amen
