The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”
As we begin the new year, often we take time to make resolutions or goals for the upcoming days ahead. As I contemplated this, I wondered how in all the busy wind-down of the holidays, I was going to find time to be quiet enough to hear from God. I was telling someone the other day how I wished I could take off work and just be by myself.
Go for a walk alone.
Read a book.
Create a few new ways to enjoy my life from day to day.
Spend time with God more than I do.
The truth is I can do all these things now. I just don’t make time. Do you struggle with this? Too much to do and not enough time or energy to do it? It’s pretty easy to procrastinate and put off the things we need to do for self-care.
I may not have it altogether to make plans for the new year in my mind yet. God does and these verses point me to the Word. So for starters, I am going to read every single day in the word this year.
I have never read the whole thing so it should be a real challenge and one that will strengthen me, give me hope and make me a better me.
Seek first the kingdom of God and everything else will be added. Matt 6:33
Prayer: Lord help me as I bring you my heart and soul. Help me as I work to surrender all the parts of me that I want to keep control. Thank you for giving me grace and love that I may glorify you in every single area of my life. In Jesus name, Amen
