“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” (Ephesians 5:1-2, NIV)
Today’s verse reminds me of a time my parents took us to a creek for a picnic and play day. We were crossing the creek, and my dad told me to step right where he stepped. He was able to navigate the creek by seeing the stepping stones and dry spots where it was safe to cross.
As I read today’s verse, I immediately went back to that moment. The Apostle Paul told his readers to follow in God’s steps like a child walking in his or her parent’s footprints. God is able to see the upcoming terrain and wants to help you navigate it. He was willing to pave the way — even all the way to the cross — so we can follow assured of salvation.
Will you follow Jesus today? He paved the way, so even when you have some tough paths to travel, you can know right where to step. I hope you will follow!
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for paving the way for me to follow. I choose to walk in the way of love, service, and sacrifice, just as you walk for me. I ask this in the holy and helping name of Jesus. Amen.
