Be Pleasing

by Pastor Mark Jordan

May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14, NIV)

I love today’s verse. It is one many pastors use as a prayer before delivering God’s Word. It speaks to making sure the heart is right so the words spoken are righteous. It’s a beautiful thought, and also an essential one for everyone…not just preachers.

Jesus taught that the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart (Luke 6:45). I imagine you find this to be true. The things you consume and meditate upon are reflected in your attitude and words. God wants you to focus on Him in your heart so your words reflect the reality of your life.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, I want to meditate on your word, keeping them central in my life. Help my life to be so full of you that it overflows from my mouth, blessing everyone with whom I come in contact. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
