“For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, despicable, hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.” (Titus 3:3-5, NRSV)
I needed this verse today…perhaps you do, too? It is a reminder not to get too caught up in personal progress that we forget how far we came. One of the realities of faith lives in the sphere of once you think you have it all together, you realize how far you still have to go. Can you relate?
God is patient with you. Do you have someone in your life with whom you need to show patience? I am sure you do. What is it like to think that God shows patience with you? Yet this is exactly what God does. It is in His character. He loves you so much that He longs to save you and show how it is to live in, with, and for Him.
As you prepare to tackle today, think about the character and nature of God. Think about the things God has done for you, and how you can reflect that for others. May it be a perpetual reminder that love and kindness is never wasted. Ever.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for showering me with your love and kindness. Help me to realize how you patient you are with me so I may extend the same grace to others. I ask this in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
